Principal's Message

September,   2018

Dear Holy Name of Mary Families and Guests,

Happy Feast Day!  On September 12, the Church celebrated the feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary. The school celebrated this important feast day with our Opening School Mass. The name Mary, by which we honor the Most Blessed Virgin means "Star of the Sea". It is, says Saint Bernard, very well given to her, because she is indeed a star which enlightens, guides, and leads us to a harbor in the stormy sea of this world.

Welcome to the 2018 – 2019 School Year! We are off to a great start.  Thank you to all the parents/guardians that visited HNOM on “Back to School Night”. We are a partnership and we appreciate your support.  I hope you noticed the newly painted main entrance! Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Powell who worked with a volunteer team of staff, teachers and parents to make our school look fresh and inviting.

On Tuesday morning, we participated in a memorial service commemorating the 17th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.  We remembered all who died, all who served and continue to serve and all who mourn. We pray for peace daily.

It is always exciting to start a new school year, filled with new adventures and challenges.  I look forward to sharing this year with all of you; working to continue the tradition of academic excellence and spiritual growth.  The new STEM Lab is in place and our STREAM program has begun.  I look forward to seeing how creative our students can be when given the right tools.

Some things to still look forward to in the month of September:

  • National Junior Honor Society Inductions – Wednesday, September 19, at 7:00 pm in the gym
  • The first PTL meeting -  Wednesday, September 19 at 5:30 pm in the faculty room
  • Valley Stream Community Fest – Saturday, September 29 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Rockaway Ave.

All are welcome!

My door is always open. Please come and see me with any concerns or questions you may have, I am here to help!

Yours in Christ,

Mrs. Pamela Sanders
